In a heartfelt announcement, “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The news came shortly after the passing of her dear colleague Joel Siegel, whose courageous fight against cancer Roberts had recently covered.

It all began a few weeks ago when Robin performed a routine self-exam and discovered a lump — a moment many women fear. Initially in disbelief, she faced the reality head-on, visiting her doctor, who confirmed the diagnosis through a biopsy.

Roberts underwent successful surgery on August 3, 2007, and has returned home to rest. She will continue follow-up treatment in the months ahead, sharing that there will be “good days and bad days,” but her spirits remain strong thanks to the support of family, friends, and her GMA colleagues Diane, Sam, Chris, and the team behind the scenes.

“To our viewers, your thoughts and prayers sustain me every morning as I sit beside Diane and say ‘Good Morning America,’” Robin wrote. She emphasized the importance of early detection and self-exams, encouraging all women to take preventive action. Blessed to have caught it early, Robin is optimistic about her recovery, even joking about future adventures like flying planes or climbing the Mayan pyramids.
