Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of Today, has revealed her next big career move, announcing she will host a brand-new Wordle game show for NBC. The announcement came on May 11 during the 8:00 a.m. hour of the morning broadcast, where she was joined by Jimmy Fallon, who serves as an executive producer on the show.
“This is very exciting — we’ve been keeping this secret for a long time,” Guthrie shared, explaining that filming will start this summer and that producers are already seeking contestants. Fallon praised Guthrie, saying, “We couldn’t do the show without her. She’s fantastic, knows how to run a show, and perfectly embodies the energy of Wordle.”

Guthrie joked about her fashion choice, teasing, “I thought you picked me because I have a skirt that looks like a Wordle!” She described the show as “super fast-paced and fun” and perfect for family viewing, adding that it’s a game where kids can learn as they play.
The news comes three months after a personal crisis, following the abduction of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Tucson home on February 1. Savannah returned to the Today desk just over a month ago, and during her announcement, she paused to thank NBC, Fallon, The New York Times, and the production team for their support during this challenging time.
“This is something full of joy,” Guthrie said. “It kind of feels strange to do everything right now, but it’s exciting to share this with everyone.” Fallon and co-host Craig Melvin added humorous support, emphasizing how indispensable she is to the project.
The show is produced in partnership with The New York Times, which created the original Wordle game, and will feature interactive gameplay designed to entertain and challenge families.
Meanwhile, Savannah continues to campaign for her mother’s safe return. On Mother’s Day, she posted emotional clips of Nancy, writing: “We will never stop looking for you… Please keep praying. Bring her home.” A $100,000 reward remains available for any information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest of those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
