In an emotional first TV interview since her mother’s abduction, Today Show host Savannah Guthrie shared the heartbreaking thoughts that plague her every night.
Speaking candidly with co-host Hoda Kotb, Savannah, 54, revealed the “unthinkable” terror that haunts her as she tries to navigate the agony of not knowing where her mother, Nancy Guthrie, is. “I wake up every night, in the middle of the night, and in the darkness, I imagine her terror,” Savannah confessed, visibly emotional.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(738x334:740x336)/Savannah-Guthrie-Nancy-Guthrie-040526-2d9dd398bcc148d9a8b9b644e1afb5c3.jpg)
Hoda Kotb, who spoke with Savannah on-air, described the moment as “gut-wrenching,” remarking on her strength and grace amid unimaginable pain. “There’s a desperation and also a steeliness about Savannah,” Hoda noted, emphasizing how Savannah holds on to hope, despite the overwhelming uncertainty. “She’s hoping someone, anyone, will see something and speak up.”
The trauma is evident in Savannah’s words as she recalled the chilling details from the night her mother was taken. “It’s unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought, and I will not hide in my face, but she needs to come home now,” Savannah said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Savannah’s family has also issued a heartfelt plea to the public, urging the community in Southern Arizona to review memories, security footage, and even personal records from the critical dates of January 11, January 31, and February 1—hoping even the smallest detail could spark a breakthrough.
“We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder,” Savannah added, revealing how the anguish continues to grip her. Despite the overwhelming uncertainty, a $1 million private reward still stands for anyone who provides information leading to Nancy’s safe return.
In the midst of the investigation, Savannah has stepped back from her hosting duties on The Today Show, but remains hopeful for a return to normalcy when things settle. “I crave a return to normalcy,” she shared with Hoda, as the support for her and her family grows stronger by the day.
We can only hope for answers, and for Nancy Guthrie to be brought home.
