and 16 years old when Zaria was born like most teenage couples Akisha and Joshua eventually separated and Zaria mainly lived with her mother in Union County North Carolina however her father remained very present in her life he spent every weekend with her when she came to visit him in his social media posts he admired his daughter called her his minimi and shared numerous photos with captions noting how much he loved his daughter he was present at her birthdays movie outings regular weekend visits and much more and many considered
Zaria a happy girl who had his presence in her life by the late 2000s and 10s Zaria was already a teenager and a promising star at Hermon r school she was part of both the dance team and the school orchestra her Orchestra director Alan Sturdivant said she was full of energy and was a perfect member of school organizations according to all accounts she was extremely happy seemingly an ordinary teenage girl who loved to laugh spend time with friends go to the movies and do everything that teenagers typically enjoy however not
everything was as cloudless as it appeared on the surface according to testimonies one of zarya’s closest friends told her mother that Zaria had confessed to her how much she actually disliked spending time at her father’s house she expressed concern that her father had serious anger issues and would sometimes rage at her for no reason she also claimed that Zaria said she didn’t feel accepted by her father’s side of the family as he was white and her mother was black making her biracial zarya’s friends and their parents
suspected that Joshua might have been using drugs but she never confirmed this regarding zarya’s mother Akisha and her attitude toward how her daughter perceived her father it was never clearly understood whether akesa knew about her daughter’s feelings toward her father for some time akesa was accustomed to weekends without her child and used this time to be part of a dance group at her church the only way for her to go there was to send Zaria to her father on the weekend of August 7 17th 2019 Zaria begged and pleaded with her
mother not to send her to her father’s house she was so adamant about not going that she sent a message to one of her friends asking to stay overnight but the friend replied that she couldn’t because her family had their own plans for the weekend so unfortunately Zaria had no choice but to go to her father’s house to this day that friend regrets not allowing Zaria to stay with her akesa didn’t perceive her daughter’s hesitation as a warning sign instead just attributing it to teenage behavior when teenagers want to do what they want
and show Disobedience so she still sent her daughter to be able to be part of the church dance group what Takeda didn’t know and probably could never have imagined even in her worst nightmares was that this would be the last time she would see her daughter Sunday August 18th 2019 approximately 9:24 in the morning 30 2-year-old Joshua Burgess walks into a police station and tells the first officer he sees that he is turning himself in for a crime the officer says okay let me get your name and check the system for any warrants for your arrest
but Joshua stops him and says no you don’t need to do that you won’t find me in the system he States I just killed someone at this point police invite him into an interrogation room to give a full statement before the information reached the media Joshua gave the police a complete confession about what he had just done he named his daughter’s full name and with zero emotion as calmly as possible explained that he had just taken his daughter’s life and if they went to his house now they could find her body at 5 on 100 Hampton Meadows
Road in Union County Monroe North Carolina neighbors stated that they didn’t even know anyone lived in that house they thought it was abandoned or a Den the police went to the address provided and indeed there they found the body of 15-year-old Zaria Burgess the scene that investigators encountered could be described as something straight out of a horror movie when they opened the door to Joshua’s house they entered the living room where they found Zarya’s body in a very disturbing State without clothing with traces of numerous
injuries throughout her body with a serious wound in the neck area and her hands and feet were restrained with handcuffs Joshua had positioned Zarya’s body as if showcasing his deed especially considering what he told the police during his confession although zarya’s body had numerous wounds the examination determined that the cause of death was a deep neck injury officially described as a sharp object wound to the neck but these are not all the disturbing details of what happened before inflicting fatal injuries on
Zaria Joshua tortured his daughter for more than 22 hours he committed sexual assault against his own child psychologically abused her and applied strangulation Joshua was charged with one count of first-degree murder statutory sexual assault of a person 15 years or younger three counts of first deegree sexual assault first deegree kidnapping and first degree sexual exploitation of a minor before continuing this heartbreaking story I want to ask for your support if you believe believe that such stories should

guilty of the execution protocol involves lethal injection and in North Carolina for the death penalty to be imposed the jury must vote unanimously for it otherwise the accused is sentenced to life imprisonment although Joshua confessed to his crime a trial was still necessary as the state sought the death penalty and despite Joshua confessing to his crime he pleaded not guilty and his attorney asked that his State confession not be replayed for the jury but obviously this request was denied according to detectives Joshua explained
several motives for his actions during his confession but two main themes that ran through everything he said were control and lust according to information from Witnesses who were present in the courtroom during the replay of Joshua’s confession he SP spoke without any remorse and said that he had planned all of his Sinister weekend with Zaria from breakfast with her to the horrible acts he imagined he would commit and fantasized about it all day until he surrendered to the police he allegedly stated that he had
unnatural feelings towards Zaria and as she Grew Older he didn’t want her to be with anyone else he wanted her to belong only to him in the most sick perverted sense it is also alleged that he said he initially planned to create a scene at the police station when he came to surrender so that they would shoot him essentially this would have been suicide by police however he eventually gave up on this because he was afraid to die according to those present Joshua claimed that he enjoyed every moment of what he did to Zaria and that these were
the best weekends of his entire life after he inflicted severe injuries on Zaria and strangled her he thought she was already dead but the girl managed to gather her last strength and come to she had enough strength to get up and try to escape when she rushed to the door but Joshua caught up with her grabbed her and inflicted a fatal wound to the back of her neck then placed her body on the living room floor Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathy said the details of this murder are unspeakable every officer and detective involved in this case feels
the consequences of what happened to this child there is no logical answer that would explain why this person did what he is accused of our hearts and prayers are with Zara’s mom and her family the Union County Sheriff’s Office stated this was truly an especially heinous cruel and cold-blooded murder of an innocent child this case was emotionally draining for all involved we continue to grieve with zarya’s mother and pray for her after zarya’s death internet detectives began searching for possible motives why her father who
outwardly appeared to love his daughter very much would kill her in such a horrible way as already mentioned detectives stated that his main motives for the murder were lust and control however the state of North Carolina kept information about this case secret which caused a lot of speculation on social media these internet detectives investigated Joshua’s Facebook page and began accusing him of being a white supremacist based on racially charged memes he posted particularly with Barack and Michelle Obama they also pointed to
various Pages he liked including Donald Trump’s Pages Fox News and the now defunct ult organization flame of the serpent because of this they suggested that zarya’s death was a kind of ritual murder for entry into a white sist group or a satanic cult one of the most disturbing posts made by Joshua was from February 8th 2016 in it he is holding a cabar knife with a Long Blade in the background an assortment of other folding knives can be seen the caption said I just really love cutting people oh I meant things I

performance at the 2019 battle of the bands in Dylan South Carolina to zer in all the Articles and news stories that were published there was no information about any previous instances of abuse between Josh and Zaria apart from mentions that he was angry or that she didn’t want to be around him there were no mentions that he physically harmed her or violence between him and her mother akesa there are no reports of this in their family history although there were mentions of drug addiction it’s still strange was he a pervert all
these years and just good at hiding it was there violence that simply was never documented how can one wake up one day and just say you know what today I’ll let the devil take over my flesh and commit this horrible act on my own child and even plan it even family members are puzzled as to why this happened zarya’s family was devastated by her loss no punishment will ever seem sufficient for the sick demon who committed such a crime there is no logical reason that could explain Joshua burgess’s actions ultimately testimonies about zarya’s
character indicate that she was a loving full of life girl whose life was tragically cut short by the horrible actions of a man who should have protected her this story breaks the heart and is a terrible reminder of how important it is to listen to our children’s concerns and be vigilant about warning signs that may arise even when the family outwardly seems normal sometimes times the scariest monsters don’t live in fairy tales but in real life and often their victims are defenseless children like Iman Moss today we will try to understand how the

teachers described immani as always being a bright and happy child immani always had a smile on her face and was a great friend to all students including even the class bully whom she tried to befriend every day imman was primarily raised by her father Iman but she was also adored by her grandmother Robin along with her aunt sheres Iman frequently took the girl to the Freedom Christian Church it was there that he met Tiffany Moss who worked as a kindergarten teacher they quickly hid it off and over the next few years began a
romantic relationship [Music] when she see your face I said it’s not a that day won’t change Miss Moss you’re amazing just the way you are yeah and when you [Music] smile I said the whole world stops and stand for a while miss Mar you’re amazing just the you are appreciate you in July 2009 the couple married and had two children together everything was going great until tragedy struck less than a year after the wedding Tiffany began physically abusing 6-year-old amanie the girl told a school nurse that she was afraid to go home with a bad report card
because she was worried her parents would harm her she also mentioned that her stepmother had beaten her with a curtain rod the nurse then discovered numerous scabs bruises and welts on amman’s arms back chest legs and shoulders the girl was then taken to the police station and Tiffany was arrested and charged with first deegree child cruelty Tiffany confessed to hitting Amman three times with a brown leather belt for eating too slowly she later pleaded guilty and was senten to 5 years of probation under George’s first
offender program and also lost her teaching job but just a few months later the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services closed the case after Tiffany and Aman completed parenting courses during this period ammani was removed from the Moss home and placed with her grandmother Robin for 6 months it was noticeable that Amman began to thrive her grades in school significantly improved her overall attitude improved and Robin noted that the girl was a wonderful child under her care it seemed like everything in her life had calmed
down again however defax returned immani to the Moss home after 6 months Robin tried to persuade her son a man to let aanny stay but he insisted on taking her back over the next 2 years the abuse continued in July 2012 it was documented that Amman tried to run away from home twice in one of those instances she went to the apartment office and told management that she wanted to run away because as Tiffany had tied her up with a belt and put her under a cold shower police responded but Tiffany and Iman told them in response that the girl was
lying since there wasn’t enough evidence to charge anyone immani was returned to the Moss home in another instance ammani ran away and was found sleeping in the bushes of a neighboring apartment complex she was found by a police officer to whom she said she ran away because her stepmother was mistreating her shockingly the officer reported the case to defax and filed charges against ammani for running away and violating curfew to ensure she would appear in juvenile court from 2011 to the summer of 2013 the Moss family moved around
Georgia sometimes living with relatives imman’s father Iman worked long hours and rarely saw her except on weekends as they began living on their own ammani rarely saw members of her extended family this continued until Mother’s Day iman’s sister Sherice invited the Moss family over to her house for Mother’s Day along with his mother Robin instantly Sherice and Robin noticed that amman’s hair had been cut when Robin asked Tiffany about this she replied if you act ugly you’ll look ugly they also noticed that amman’s behavior had become
more timid than they remembered despite all the abuse at home she somehow maintained good grades and a relatively positive attitude at school after the end of the 2012 to 2013 school year the Mosses announced their intention to take immani out of public school and homeschool her imman’s aunt sharaness openly objected to this decision and even called the defax to intervene but her concerns were ignored as they refused to do anything about it because the Moss family already had two younger children at home immani was now
completely isolated from any contact with the outside world on August 6th 2013 daax received an anonymous report that Amman was suffering from neglect by her father and stepmother and looked thin however they did not even bother to visit the home after the report allegedly because they did not have a current address and information about the ongoing abuse Mother’s Day was the last time any of amman’s family saw her the Moss family moved into an apartment in lawrencville Georgia now that ammani had been taken out of school family
couldn’t see her at this time Iman was working two jobs which made him even more absent from the home he would leave for his first job early in the morning briefly come home late in the afternoon and leave again for his second job around 6:00 p.m. finally getting home around midnight this left ammani and her siblings mostly under the care of Tiffany or more accurately no care at all although there were no records indicating the Tiffany’s bi ological children suffered abuse this didn’t stop her from continuing to abuse ammani
sometime after the summer of 2013 Tiffany began starving ammani she had always been a thin child but she was noticeably becoming thinner and thinner it’s believed that this went on for several weeks and during all this time she was confined to her bedroom new neighbors only saw the two younger children and had no idea they had an older sister eventually immani became twoo we to move and couldn’t get out of bed urinate or defecate Tiffany would feed and take care of her biological children but deny Amman food on a few
occasions she would text demand photos of the meals she had made for their children and in one case she texted him to bring home cookie dough so she could bake cookies immani would have had to smell the cookies being baked while lying in her room on the brink of starvation on October 24th 2013 ammani suffered a seizure which Aman believed was a convulsion he claimed that when he came home Tiffany told him that something was wrong with ammani he then went to the bathroom and found ammani in the bathtub on the floor shaking she was
unresponsive and her eyes kept rolling back instead of calling paramedics or taking her to the emergency room he carried ammani back to her bed where she lay for the next few days during those days Iman would visit her and try to feed her but unsuccessfully tragically she passed away on October 28th 2013 Iman learned of her death When Tiffany called him while he was at work to deliver the news when he returned home everything in the house seemed normal the children were playing and Tiffany was watching TV while imman lay dead in her room
upstairs when he went upstairs he found his daughter lying on a blanket on the floor of her bedroom he told Tiffany that they should should call the police but unsurprisingly Tiffany refused fearing they would lose their two other children instead she insisted that they needed to hide her body so Aman wrapped amman’s body in a blanket and put her back in bed incredibly the couple kept amman’s body in the apartment for several more days and their lives largely returned to normal Iman claimed he went to work and came home to spend
time with amman’s body grieving since the couple had agreed to conceal amman’s death Tiffany went to the store and bought new sheets and a new jumpsuit after the ones that were on her bed were still soiled with excrement and urine Tiffany suggested they burn her and Report her missing so they did it imman’s father went to Walmart to buy a galvanized trash can garbage bags charcoal and lighter fluid on Halloween Tiffany and Iman decided to put her body in the trash can and burn it when they tried to fit her into the trash can they
realized how stiff her body was with fourth stage rigor mores so they had to manually break am Manny’s bones then they used duct tape to bend and compress her bones together Iman covered her with a blanket before stuffing her into a trash bag and into the trash can the next morning they transported the trash can in the back seat of their car with their two other children in the car looking for a place to burn it eventually they found a secluded spot and pulled the trash can with imman’s body out of the car they added pieces of
charcoal to the bottom of the can doused the body with lighter fluid and set it on fire as they watched her body burn they realized it wouldn’t burn to ashes after about 5 minutes they put out the fire and returned to their apartment but amman’s body was still in the trash can the day after the attempted burning Iman went to work with imman’s body still in his car at work he confessed the crime to a friend who insisted that he contact the police after returning from both jobs and thinking things over he called
the police at around 4: in the morning saying that his daughter was not well and that he was having suicidal thoughts Iman told Tiffany about his call to the police Tiffany immediately began to pack up her belongings leaving the trash can containing amman’s remains in a grassy area of the apartment complex and fled with the children in the family car when police arrived the man told them that Amman had drunk chemicals and died he claimed he panicked put her body in the trash can and tried to cremate the body
the police were shocked to see amman’s burnt body in a garbage can in the yard and didn’t believe his story which immediately made him and Tiffany suspects is going to be what appeared to be some type of office was a computer in here was was a note on the wall that had class rules try your best smile stay motivated and have fun or the class rules going straight back this is going to be what appeared to be the master bedroom so still in the master bedroom that was
a small sofa or love seat type furniture so this is moving back into the dining rooms um there a kind of a open floor plan with dining room living area and the kitchen we’re moving into the kitchen at this point those items had been pulled out from underneath the sink by one of our uh
specialists receipt that’s bedding appeared to be unopened sheets and a bottle of lotion Pantry Iman was immediately arrested and
a search began for Tiffany after some time on the Run Tiffany eventually left the children at her mother’s house and decided to turn herself into the police quite quickly Iman confessed that he lied about reporting that Amman had drunk chemicals herself um did you ever see any problems between ammani and Tiffany while you were at pearle’s yes tell me about those um ever since uh going back to 2010 ever since then it was like uh like a LoveHate relationship tell explain to the jury what you mean by a LoveHate relationship um you know her and money
was like um it was always something they couldn’t get a loone did you ever know of Tiffany from 2010 after 2010 to discipline ammani no not until the incident all right I I want to ask you when when I say discipline okay what a discipline a child what does that mean to you at that time spanking but but are there other ways to discipline children yes uh is sending the bed without their supper a way of disciplining a child no that’s not um is putting him in a corner and putting him in timeout a discipline for a child yes so you said that when
you said that that you said that Tiffany didn’t didn’t discipline ammani are you aware of whether or not she used any of the other things other than a spanking to correct her behavior yes um after we well let me go back when we had the incident where she spank the money in 2010 we had to take uh class I took a called the fatherhood program and I think she had to take anger management and then we had inhome counseling cuz at the time I was not aware of the other form of displine cuz you know I grew up from Old School you
know you got a spank in and that was it so you learned about other form disciplin but at the time I didn’t know but you know spanking and so did after 2010 did you decide that you were going to use the other forms of discipline other than spanking yes and do you know whether or not Tiffany did that too yes best of my knowledge I think she did right while and so you moved in in the s in did you say in September of 2013 yeah to the apartment yes sir um where did you live did you ever live with your mother um yes that was um you talking
about me and Tiffany or you and Tiffany and the children no sir not the three of you didn’t live there no did ammani ever Liv with your mother yes during incident in 2010 and after that was was Amman placed with your mother no sir what how did she end up over there then you said at my mom house yeah how how did I mean okay how’d you get in 2010 um we had the spanking incident Tiffany uh spank M she had uh whips and stuff all on her arms and back I think legs a belt whip okay A man was charged and pleaded guilty to
felony murder and concealing a death he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in exchange for agreeing to testify against his wife Tiffany who rejected a plea deal that would have allowed her to receive the same sentence instead the case against Tiffany Moss went to trial Tiffany was appointed attorneys for her case but she chose to represent herself going against the judge’s advice instead of representation she had attorneys acting as standby counsel to answer any legal questions accordingly she did not
give an opening statement conduct cross-examination of witnesses or deliver a closing argument she faced one count of malice murder two counts of felony murder two counts of child cruelty and one count of concealing a death a total of six charges and she firmly believed that God would help her through it on the other hand the prosecution presented 18 Witnesses including imman’s andt Sherice her grandmother Robert and her fourth grade teacher they also had her father Iman testify along with the medical examiner
the most shocking of all the information that came out during the trial was amman’s malnourishment when she was found she weighed only 30 lbs and the medical examiner stated that she was nothing more than Skin and Bones the medical examiner added that based on her weight loss of muscle mass and the fact that her organs were so small compared to normal parameters she was able to conclude that the girl died of starvation when jurors were shown autopsy photos of ammani the weight loss was evident and several jurors were
forced to look away with one crying Tiffany Moss never looked up once Iman testified that immani ate a lot when he saw her on weekends when he was responsible for the children the district attorney on the case argued for the court not to give Tiffany a life sentence regardless of parole and to never never let her out because she will never change they said she shown you too much of her ability to be cruel there will always be that dark side that’s waiting to come out on May 1st 36-year-old Tiffany Moss was sentenced
to death by lethal injection verdict as to penalty count one murder we the jury recommend and fix the penalty as death signed and dated by the poor person please give it to council for their reviews to any exceptions to the form of The Verdict by the state none from the state as form or any exceptions to the form of The Verdict by the defense no ladies and
gentlemen under these circumstances it’s necessary that the court conduct a poll of the jury it simply means that I have a series of questions on May 1st 36y old Tiffany Moss was sentenced to death by lethal injection she became the first person to be sentenced to death in the state of Georgia in over 5 years the judge scheduled her execution for sometime between June 7th and 14th 2019 although that date continues to change due to appeals Iman and Tiffany remained married and lost custody of their two children after Amani’s murder the
children were sent to live with foster parents despite attempts by both Tiffany and iman’s parents to gain custody of them imman’s death led to Serious criticism and forced systemic changes in Georgia’s child protection system following her death several defax employees were fired and others faced disciplinary action it also led to changes in how they conduct investigations and reports of abuse a child welfare reform Council was created which released a report in January 2015 on ways to improve georg’s child welfare
system in 2018 imman’s grandmother Robin filed a lawsuit against defax claiming they knew about the deteriorating conditions and abuse in the Moss household and could have acted sooner however there has been no information on the outcome of that lawsuit since then Iman is currently serving his sentence at Smith State Prison in Glenville Georgia Tiffany is currently at a renale state prison and is the only woman on death Row in Georgia when she is eventually executed she will become the Third Woman in Georgia since
