He Promised His Mother He Would Do The Same To Her | TrueCrimeDocumentary

At 12:59 in the morning, 17-year-old Zion Foster sent her final message, just three letters. OMW, on my way home, she never made it home. Earlier that evening, Zion had told her mother that she was spending time with her favorite cousin. Nothing about that seemed unusual. She had hung out with him many times before.

But when the search began the next morning, he told a very different story. He claimed he hadn’t seen Zion, not that night. In fact, he said he hadn’t seen her in years. The problem was that the location data told a different story. Surveillance cameras told a different story, too. Before long, investigators confirmed that late that night, Zion had entered his house.

She was never seen leaving. A few hours later, a neighbor’s security camera captured suspicious activity around a vehicle and then her cousin set out on a late night drive. When police started asking questions, his story kept changing. First, he denied seeing Zion at all. Then, he admitted she had been at his house.

After that, he claimed she had suddenly died. But even after months of searching, one of the biggest questions remained unanswered. Zion Foster’s body had vanished without a trace. And the more investigators uncovered about her favorite cousin, the more disturbing the story became. Hey guys, let me grab you for just a second.

I’m really curious where my audience is watching from. So, I’d love for you to drop a comment and tell me what city you’re in and what time it is for you right now. Thanks for taking a moment. Go ahead and share that in the comments. And now, let’s keep going. The last message 17-year-old Zion Foster sent before she disappeared suggested that she was on her way home.

Earlier that evening, Zion had told both her mother and her boyfriend that she was going out with her favorite cousin, something she did at least twice a month. But when her mother reached out to him the following day for help finding her daughter, the cousin delivered some surprising news. He claimed he had neither seen nor spoken to Zion.

According to him, that had been the case for years. Sierra Milton, a mother of six, woke up on January 5th, 2022 and realized that her oldest daughter, Zion Foster, had never come home the night before. Zion was a senior at East Detroit High School. Just a few months earlier in November, she had celebrated her 17th birthday. Like many teenagers, Zion was going through a rebellious phase.

She had threatened to run away from home and had actually done so twice the year before. At 16, frustrated by her mother’s rules, she left home and went to stay with her grandmother. She was persuaded to return, but only remained there for a few days before leaving again. At the time, the situation caused enough concern that Sierra contacted the police.

Fortunately, it turned out to be another false alarm. Zion had been struggling with her grandmother’s recent cancer diagnosis along with her own growing desire for independence. But that January morning felt different. The night before, Zion had finished her shift at Detroit Wing Company. After returning home from work, she asked for permission to go out for a little while longer.

She was honest about who she planned to spend time with, her favorite cousin, Jallen. Feeling comfortable with that, Sierra agreed and watched her daughter walk out the door. It was just before 11:00 that night. The following day, Zion’s 17-year-old boyfriend, Vertez Gonzalez, who attended the same school, sent Sierra a message.

He asked if she had heard from Zion because he could no longer reach her. The last text message he had received from her was sent at 12:59 in the morning. It simply read, “OMW,” meaning on my way. But Zion never made it home. Calls to her phone went straight to voicemail. The messages sent to her throughout the night were never delivered.

Finally, at 8:53 that morning, he sent her one more text. Are you alive? He then followed up with another message. This is the worst thing that could have happened. What made Zion’s disappearance even more concerning was the response Sierra received from her cousin, Jallen Brower. Despite what her daughter had said, Jallen claimed he had not been with Zion the night before.

He even asked Sierra how often Zion had been saying that she was spending time at his house. Once or twice a month. She she replied once or twice a month. In response, he angrily wrote that Zion’s lies about him were extremely manipulative and dangerous. But the question remained, why would she lie about spending time at his house? Jaylen suggested that she was likely seeing someone else who lived nearby.

Zion had been sharing her phone location with her boyfriend, Vertez. The tracking system showed that at 11:24 that night, she was located directly across the street from Jallen’s house. Vertez, who himself admitted he sometimes felt insecure in their relationship, captured a screenshot of his girlfriend’s location at that exact moment.

Jaylen suggested that Zion may have used his house as a cover while actually being at someone else’s home in the neighborhood. She probably knew someone on that street or nearby. Jallen also advised Sierra to contact the police, but asked not to be dragged into the situation. However, Bertez was not so easily convinced.

He flooded Jallen with messages. He showed the 23-year-old a screenshot of Zion’s location from his own phone. In response, Jallen sent footage from his Ring surveillance system. The recordings showed no sign that Zion had ever arrived at his house. He insisted she had never been there. Officers from the East Point Police Department were not inclined to treat Sierra’s missing person report with urgency.

According to the distraught mother, law enforcement believed her daughter had a history of running away. The officers at the station did not hold back. over it now specifically said to us that I mean I’m going to be honest with you. We’re taking this as she’s a runaway.  Not receiving the support she needed from law enforcement, Sierra decided to take matters into her own hands.

With help from relatives and friends, she organized search efforts for Zion. In the days that followed, they put up flyers, held public gatherings, and reached out to the media.  Guys, the police need your help.  That’s right.  We need your help. Meanwhile, officers were eventually sent to speak with Jallen Brower.

Jallen, whom Zion had referred to as her favorite cousin, was actually the cousin of her former stepfather. In other words, he was related to Sierra’s ex-husband through family ties. At 23 years old, he was already a father of two young children and had been in a long-term relationship with Katrina Smith. Sierra was convinced that her daughter had always been close with Jallen and remained close to him right up until her disappearance.

But according to Jallen himself, they had not spoken in years. Police eventually located him at home with his girlfriend Katrina Smith.  What’s going on, man?  Mr. Bryzer.  Yes, sir.  What’s your name, ma’am?  Okay. Do you guys uh know Zion?  Yes. So, uh,  Jaylen invited the officers into his home and allowed them to search the property.

He stated that the last time he had seen his cousin was almost a year earlier in May of 2021. last time.  Jaylen went on to explain that in his view, Zion’s mother and her boyfriend were fixated on the idea that she had been with him that night. He also offered to show footage from his Ring camera system. When Sierra reviewed the recordings, she felt that there were gaps in the footage from the night of January 4th.

In her opinion, some of the video had been deleted.  I was like, but she was never here. I don’t know. But anyway,  cameras to show here.  East Point police found nothing suspicious during their search of the home. There were no signs that Zion had ever been there. They listened as Jaylen complained that he had been dragged into drama caused by his 17-year-old cousin, someone he barely spent time with.

The times I left, I took her to work and we came back, went to get gas. Just basically showing this girl was never in my house.  So we’ve known to be a runaway. Like she’s like four times and every time she got some dude’s house.  Her mom knows this. Her mom’s just playing it a certain way and it’s making me so [ __ ] uncomfortable.

You guys know I want to be around?  Yes. I would assume you guys would know that.  Not saying like you not her job. I’m just assuming she would tell you the damn information.  I know. Appreciate it.  All right, guys. Enjoy the rest of your night.  At this point, Jaylen may have managed to mislead East Point Police, but not Sierra Milton.

She knew exactly who her daughter had left the house with. On top of that, she had greeted Jallen herself on multiple occasions right on the driveway when he came to pick up Zion. She was certain he was lying.  He hadn’t seen or been in contact with her for 3 years, which is impossible when you were in my driveway and gave me a hug.

The simplest way to check whether Zion had really been across from her cousin’s house, as the location data suggested, was to review nearby doorbell camera footage. Um, around 11:15 on the night of January 4th, a white sedan known to be used by Jaylen Brower was captured pulling into his driveway.

Two people got out of the vehicle. The video clearly showed a man and a woman entering the home. Earlier that night, just before 11:00, Jaylen had dropped Katrina off at work. She worked the night shift in a factory from 11:00 p.m. to 6 a.m. So, the second person seen entering the house at 11:15 could not have been Katrina.

Later, phone location data confirmed the identities of the two individuals captured on camera entering the home. They were Jaylen Brower and Zion Foster. The camera did not record Zion leaving the house. At 1:41 in the morning, the same camera across the street captured Jallen driving the car out of the driveway, then backing it up again.

After that, the trunk was positioned toward the backyard. Uh, a few minutes later, the car drove away. Less than 10 minutes later, it returned to the house. Search warrants were obtained for both the home and the vehicle. Inside the house, the search yielded nothing. The vehicle was carefully documented and examined. However, no obvious evidence explaining what happened to Zion was found, at least not until investigators brought in search dogs trained to detect human remains.

The dogs gave a clear alert at the trunk of Jallen’s vehicle. On January 19th, the 23-year-old voluntarily agreed to speak with detectives. He was accompanied by a friend who was also his attorney. By that point, it was already clear that he had lied about not being with Zion on the night she disappeared. Now, Jallen claimed he was ready to tell the truth about what happened that night.

Um, according to him, he picked Zion up from her home and brought her to his place. After that, he put his two sons, aged 1 and two, to bed. Then he joined Zion downstairs in the living room.  Um, you guys mix up your weed, you grow up, you guys start smoking, you’re just watching TV, just chilling.

Yeah, she’s telling me about um how her mom their relationship is a lot better than it was the last time she talked to us and her boyfriend about prom the job and everything and how she’s worked on getting an apartment and everything.  Jaylen claimed that they smoked marijuana after which Zion became extremely drowsy.

According to him, he saw her head tilt back as if she had fallen asleep while sitting on the couch. At that moment, he said he went into another room to pour himself a drink. Oh, you guys are just chilling and that’s all a sudden she just blanks out like that.  Um, not when I got up to go get me something to drink.  Yeah.  I came back and she was saying she was tired and everything and she laid her head back.

So, okay, I’m let you go to sleep for a bit, whatever.  Okay.  And then about 15 to 20 minutes after that, I was like, “Okay, are you good? You ready to go home?” And she wasn’t responding or any of that.  Was your plan to go back home?  Jaylen stated that Zion’s pulse was very weak. He then described her heartbeat as non-existent.

According to him, his young cousin simply died on his couch. He said that instead of calling 911, he panicked. Not knowing why she had died, he decided that it would look like he had killed her.  Her heartbeat was getting very, very faint and her breathing was like non-existent.  Oh, I smoke all was weed, noral marijuana. So, I freaked out.

I’m like, “Okay, well, this looks terrible. This looks very bad.” I didn’t know what to do. So, I took her I put her to my trunk and I put her in my trunk.  Okay.  And I told her and I took her to Highland Park and put her inside of a trash can and then I left.  Detectives asked Jaylen how he could be certain that Zion had died.

According to his version of events, the 17-year-old girl suddenly stopped breathing without any explanation or warning.  Her head’s back on the couch. She’s still alive at that point. You should probably just hide or whatever, you know, from the, you know, leave.  And then you start shaking her, she doesn’t wake up. You check her pulse.

She said,  and you can see she’s not breathing like that.  So, at that point, what are you doing?  Freaking out.  Okay. So, you’re freaking out. And this whole time you’ve been home.  At that point in time, we thought she was definitely dead. Yeah.  Okay.  Well, was she dead? Do you think she was dead at that point or does she still just have pain breathing? And  there wasn’t anything.

There was nothing at that point.  Yeah, exactly.  You know the difference between dead and alive, right?  Was she breathing?  She wasn’t breathing. So, I assume that was her. Her heartbeat was like I couldn’t read our couldn’t feel our feet or anything. So, I would say she was dead definitely.  Okay.

I want I want to have you show us a dumpster,  okay?  Because I don’t want to mistake it and I want to obviously get out there and see if if she’s still there, then we need to recover and if not, then we need to do the steps to locate where she’s at. Okay.  Okay.  You’re okay with that?  Absolutely.  Jaylen led detectives to trash containers in Highland Park where he said he had left Zion’s body several weeks earlier.

He stated that Zion had been in his home for about 2 hours before her death, which would mean she died shortly after 1:00 in the morning. Phone records showed that her device stopped communicating at 1:15 a.m., matching the time she stopped responding to Vertez’s messages. Jallen also told investigators that he had not deleted anything from his phone after the night Zion died.

However, detectives later determined that just 2 days afterward, he performed a full factory reset of the device, effectively erasing all of its data. Despite this, they were able to recover his phone’s movement history. Um, the data showed that at 1:48 a.m., Jallen was located near the trash containers in Highland Park, the same place where he claimed he had left Zion’s body in the container on the right.

But no trace of the girl was found there. I’m going walk up to you. Okay.  Yes.  It was already open.  It was already open.  Yes.  Did you close it?  Yes.  You close it?  Yes.  Where did you park your car?  Right by it. Right in front of it.  Okay. Sorry.  I said right in front of it. Did you back into it or did you uh pull forward?  So, you were side by side.

Okay. He said that uh my baby just died and then that he threw her in a dumpster. like she was trash.  When Jaylen met with investigators again the next day on January 20th, inconsistencies in his story began to emerge. This time he claimed they had taken LSD that night. In his view, Zion’s reaction to the psychedelic drug could have triggered a cardiac arrest.

Of course, this explanation was no more convincing than his earlier claim that marijuana had caused her death. A detective tried to use this new version of events to push Jaylen toward a confession. Perhaps he would frame the drugs as the reason for his actions or for what had happened between him and his younger cousin.

I was trying acid and  Okay.  I think that’s what killed her.  Do you? Yes.  Did you have like a freaking momentary like didn’t know what you were doing moment?  No. No. She also she took a herself.  Let me ask you this. The problem with those drugs are when you’re on them, you don’t know what you’re doing.

I mean, that’s the reason people take them, right? Did you do something when you’re I mean, because again, I’m trying to figure this out and that would make complete sense. when you dropped the acid, did you have you know I’m again I’m not saying it’s okay but  I was I was completely comforted completely. Um I just think I don’t know if the effect for her was positive or I know it does a lot your brain like  yeah it does a lot.

I’m going tell you right now it it makes sense to me now. It all makes sense to me. You understand that, right? Because I’m sitting here trying to figure out how this nice young guy Jay could ever hurt anybody. But it makes sense to me now.  That’s not you. That’s not Jay at that point. You understand that, right?  If you did something under the influence that I need to know that because that’s a big difference and I can understand that. That I can appreciate.

However, the detective was unable to obtain a confession. Without it and without the recovery of Zion’s body, there was not enough evidence to bring a murder charge. Jaylen was arrested and taken into custody on a single charge, making false statements to police.  Statements he made to police, actively deceiving them and the whereabouts of Zion Foster, the health and safety of Zion Foster, uh, and his interaction with her.

In June of that same year, Jaylen spoke with investigators again. This time only audio was recorded. During the conversation, he once more changed his story. Jaylen walked back his earlier claim that they had taken LSD that night, saying that part was false. Other small details in his account also shifted. He no longer said that Zion had been unconscious on the couch.

In the new version, she was on the floor. He explained that he felt pressured by police and had been trying to provide more information, so he made up a more complicated story in order to satisfy investigators.  Well, I left that out um about the LSD, but yeah, we both took a hit in LSD and it must have hit her different or hit her wrong.

[ __ ]  Oh,  did you say it [ __ ] him or did he see I’m saying he’s telling me that? I’m trying to say is he telling me [ __ ] that you didn’t say or did you feel pressure to just build something up there before?  Meanwhile, the garbage trucks operating in Highland Park were traced to specific areas of local landfills.

The task of sorting through massive amounts of waste from across the Detroit area accumulated over several weeks proved extremely difficult. A large-scale operation was launched expected to last about 8 weeks. Dozens of volunteers, most of them wearing masks and protective suits along with heavy machinery, methodically sifted through layers of trash, searching for any trace of Zion.

We expect phase one uh to take approximately two weeks. Uh but we’re doing what’s right for the right reasons and we’re going to uh do everything we possibly can uh to to bring some some degree of closure. Will never be complete closure, but some degree of closure and justice uh to this family.  Meanwhile, Jaylen Brower was facing up to four years in prison for lying to police.

Detroit law enforcement with support from the FBI continued working to secure an arrest warrant on suspicion of murder. During sentencing, Jaylen addressed the judge with his explanation.  Um, one, I did turn myself in. Yes, I lied, but I was not in the right state of mind. Um, there was no way for me to prepare for a situation like that.

I was scared. I don’t know exactly how she passed, what caused her to pass. I just know one minute she was cool. She was fine. She laid back for a minute, next, but next thing I know she’s just she she was dead. I don’t know what caused it. I did not cause it or anything like that. I reacted stupidly off of fear and panic like I’ve never felt before in my life.

Literally.  You think she dies and then you dispose of the body? Just like that. That was your choice.  Did not know what to do. I sat for at least 10 minutes sitting there like what do I do? Who do I call? My kids are upstairs. We just got into this place after struggling for like two years to get it and everything is falling down.

I won’t have any conversation in this book.  And I wish I could take it back. I would have called the ambulance, called her mom cuz her mom’s so sweet. Her mom is so sweet. And I just knew I wish I could take it back. Nobody be in the situation. At the very least, they be like, “Okay, this happened. Confirm this.

” And everybody have some sort of peace right now. You know,  however, Jaylen Brower was ultimately sentenced to 23 months in prison. While in custody, his phone calls with his girlfriend Katrina and other family members were closely monitored. At times, he used other inmates calling codes in an attempt to conceal his conversations.

He also had access to a prohibited mobile phone which he used to exchange thousands of messages with Katrina. During his calls, Jallen repeatedly asked whether anything important had happened. It appeared to be a subtle attempt to find out whether the large scale landfill search had produced any results.  The most the most logical and possible one, right, is that there’s nothing major nothing major or new.

And due to that there’s a lack effort to put together any yeah any types of anything. And that that’s basically that’s basically the most logical thing that I came up with.  Mhm.  Keep your head up. Don’t say nothing.  Baby stop talking.  I know. I know. I don’t I don’t know what you what you speak of Thursday.  Jaylen’s concern about the search for Zion was quite telling.

If his version of events were true and she had suddenly died of unknown natural causes without any violence, he should have been most interested in her being found. Recovering Zion’s body would have cleared his name, and the sooner that happened, the better it would have been for him. On top of that, wanting to find Zion would have been the natural reaction of a caring cousin.

Yet, strangely, he repeatedly expressed relief whenever the search efforts showed no significant progress. As the final days of the landfill operation approached, Jaylen even began referring to it as a body search.  Today is the first, tomorrow’s the second. That’s what um to stop the CO thing here.

Um yes searching for essentially um you know um usually there’s a you get an update before that but actually nothing so don’t worry about nothing.  Jaylen served a little over 9 months of his sentence before being released early. He took part in a special 90-day correctional program, a so-called discipline camp modeled on military-style structure and designed for offenders convicted of certain crimes.

Participants in the program can reduce their prison time if they demonstrate positive behavioral changes. Nearly a year had passed and Zion still had not been found. No murder charges had been filed. And now the main suspect was back home with his family.  Why is this man free? What? I can admit to this and still be let free.  Jaylen Brower’s freedom did not last long.

On June 13, 2023, after an 18-month investigation, Detroit police finally obtained a warrant for his arrest. you real quick about your identity and your license and all that. We got to figure out who you are. I drive around with your license, man. You know,  yeah, I got my  The 24year-old was charged with seconddegree murder and destruction of evidence during the arrest in connection with Science’s killing.

Two additional mobile phones were seized from him. Although he had reset his primary phone to factory settings, investigators were able to recover part of its activity. His search history had been saved in cloud storage. On January 7th, 3 days after he allegedly disposed of his cousin’s body in a dumpster, Jallen carried out a series of Google searches.

Do garbage trucks have compacting mechanisms? What is the force of a garbage truck compactor? How do police obtain phone history? How can you tell if the police are tracking you? Beyond these incriminating searches, investigators also discovered that in the months leading up to the incident, Jallen had regularly searched for pornography using keywords such as cousin and step cousin.

Experts were able to recover the results of these video searches, and reports indicated that some of the content was extremely violent and explicitly abusive. As the case moved closer to trial, preliminary hearings revealed additional evidence that surfaced after Jallen’s release. These hearings also gave the defense an opportunity to present an alternative version of events.

During the proceedings, Vertez Gonzalez testified that in his view, Zion regularly took medication for epilepsy. He told the court that Zion had spoken to him about experiencing seizures and that without medication, they became more frequent and severe. On one occasion, Verdis witnessed Zion suddenly weaken, lean forward, and then regain consciousness within seconds.

He believed it may have been a seizure.  Have you ever seen her have a seizure?  Uh, I think so.  Yes, I believe so.  And why she was having a seizure? Explain to me what happened. Just I mean just like like a little pass out like that’s it like quick little teeth like  she would pass out. Was she foaming at the mouth or  No.

Okay. She was shaking to  No. Okay. She just passed out.  Yeah. Just for a quick second and she like get back straight.  Okay.  However, Sierra Milton, whose younger child did in fact have that diagnosis, testified that this was not true. Zion had never suffered from seizures. Hundreds of pages of medical records covering years of her treatment confirmed Sierra’s statement.

Despite this, Jaylen Brower’s version of events began to be viewed in a different light. Perhaps Zion had suddenly died in his living room due to a medical condition. Perhaps she had experienced a seizure. The prosecutor rejected this version.  Now, there are only two people who can say exactly what happened inside of the house that night.

One of them is Zion and she is gone. The other is the defendant. And you will hear that nearly every time he spoke about what happened, his story changed. And although he got rid of Zion’s body, you will see that he left behind a trail of digital evidence that is damning and will show you that the circumstances all lead to one and only one explanation for why Zion left his house in the trunk of his car that night, and that’s because he murdered her.

He also had a history of seizures and taking seizure medications. Now, on this particular day, she came over to Jaylen’s house. They were smoking. Jayen told the police after some time that she had shallow breathing and a faint heartbeat. He checked her to see if she was alive and she was dead. He then feared because he was doing drugs, which is still federally illegal, that he could be blamed for something and he panicked.

Zion’s phone disconnected from the network at 1:15 in the morning on the same day she disappeared and the device itself vanished along with her. However, her previous phone remained at home. Sierra Milton handed it over to the police. On it, investigators found months of messages between Zion and her favorite cousin.

Jallen’s texts ranged from odd and concerning to openly inappropriate, and at times they carried a sexual undertone. More than 4,000 individual messages were recovered from the old phone. In these conversations, Jallen frequently invited Zion to his house when his girlfriend was not around. He even offered to let her stay in his basement if she ever ran away again, and he advised her on how to avoid police if she did so.

Wayne County assistant prosecutor Ryan Elsie described the messages as systematic and obsessive. At times, Jallen complimented her appearance and intelligence. At other times, he asked strange and immature questions, including telling Zion that other people believed they were a couple. He also claimed that Katrina, the mother of his children, was jealous of her.

Later, he boasted to Zion about how easily he could attract women, and in one message, he even referred to himself as a god. Prosecutor Elsie concluded that the 23-year-old had spent years gradually manipulating his younger cousin, fantasizing about her, and that on January 4th, according to the prosecution, he ultimately acted on those desires.

It was this distorted motive, prosecutors argued, that led to her death. Jurors also learned that on the same day Jallen brought Zion to his home, he discovered that Katrina was pregnant with their third child. Messages between them showed that he lied to his partner about his whereabouts that day. Earlier, Katrina had gone to the emergency room after experiencing nausea and sudden hot flashes. Her condition worsened later.

She repeatedly texted Jaylen that she felt too ill to stay at work and asked him to pick her up. At 1:25 in the morning, she sent a message. I think I need to go home. At 1:26 in the morning, I feel really sick. A few minutes later, my stomach hurts. I feel nauseous. I keep getting waves of heat and cold. Jaylen’s response was brief.

You’ll be fine, baby. He picked her up only around 3:00 in the morning. By then, many hours had already passed. The night was almost over. Yet, the events of that evening continued to raise questions for investigators. It was around 300 a.m. when Jallen arrived to pick up Katrina, and that trip later became one of the details examined during the investigation.

When Katrina got into the car, she noticed a deep scratch on his collarbone. The injury immediately caught her attention. It looked unusual and noticeable enough to raise questions. According to Katrina, she couldn’t help but focus on it as soon as she was near Jaylen. Jallen explained that a cat had scratched him so badly that it drew blood.

He gave a simple explanation, claiming the injury came from a household cat and that the scratch had been strong enough to break the skin and cause bleeding. Katrina was surprised. What she heard didn’t fully match her past experience or observations. According to her, the cat had never scratched him that badly before.

Because of that, the details stuck in her memory. She said she had never seen injuries like that caused by the animal, so she paid attention to his explanation. The trial lasted two full weeks. During that time, the court heard extensive testimony, reviewed evidence, and carefully examined the circumstances of the case.

Day by day, both sides presented their arguments while the jury was introduced to the full body of material meant to help them reach a verdict. In May 2024, Jallen chose not to testify. He exercised his legal right to remain silent, meaning the jury never heard his version of events directly from the witness stand.

The prosecution called 32 witnesses. Each provided information that prosecutors argued helped reconstruct what had happened. Their testimony covered multiple aspects of the case and formed a significant part of the evidence. The defense called none. After the prosecution rested, the defense chose not to present any witnesses of its own, leaving the jury to evaluate the case primarily on the evidence and testimony presented by the state.

The case against Jallen was largely built on circumstantial evidence, but it appeared compelling. Individual pieces of information came together into a coherent picture. Although there was no direct confession or eyewitness to the crime itself, prosecutors argued that the totality of evidence logically pointed to the defendant’s responsibility.

A forensic anthropologist who reviewed Zion’s medical history concluded that the only condition that could theoretically have led to her death was asthma. The expert carefully analyzed the available medical data and provided a professional assessment of possible causes of death. In their view, asthma remained the only known condition that could have posed a serious life-threatening risk to Zion.

However, an asthma attack would not look like what Jallen described. That conclusion became an important part of the expert testimony. According to the specialist, the scenario described by the defendant did not match how a severe asthma attack typically presents. Instead of quiet unconsciousness and a weak heartbeat, Zion would have been desperately fighting for every breath.

The expert explained that a person in such a condition would show obvious signs of severe respiratory distress, a critical and life-threatening emergency that would be impossible to miss. Anyone nearby would clearly understand that immediate medical help was required. Vertez reiterated his earlier testimony that Zion had told him about experiencing attacks.

During the trial, he again shared with the jury what he had previously heard from Zion. His statements became another element the court had to consider when evaluating all the circumstances. At the same time, he admitted that his girlfriend had a habit of exaggerating or inventing certain stories. This added important context to his testimony.

He explained that at times Zion would embellish events or tell stories that were difficult to verify. It appeared that Zion liked to tell different fabricated stories. That impression emerged from the testimony presented in court. This aspect of her behavior also became part of the discussion during the proceedings.

During his closing argument, the prosecutor drew the jury’s attention to the key facts of the case, summarizing the two-week trial and reminding them of the central evidence and testimony that, according to the state, were decisive in reaching a verdict. when he brought her to his house late at night on January 4th of 2022 behind the back of his pregnant girlfriend who was at work at the time.

He brought Zion over to his house late that night and she leaves that house in the trunk of his car on a night where he has an unexplained gash on his collarbone. What do you think happened inside that house that night? She died of COVID. She died of a seizure. There was a claim that he did all this.

He He did what he did because he was afraid of getting caught for marijuana. Afraid of getting busted for pots. You can use your common sense. If you go to a marijuana dispensary, there’s not going to be a team of ATF agents waiting to bust you and take you to federal prison for that. It’s about the equivalent of a parking ticket.

You ever heard of somebody getting rid of a body to avoid a parking ticket? Bertez himself said Zion told him specifically she had a history of seizures. The question was asked, “Were you concerned when you saw this?” No, I was not concerned because I knew of a history of seizures she told me about and that she was on medication for it.

And his understanding is that if she did not take the medication, the seizures would be that much worse.  Sierra Milton and other members of Zion’s family waited for the jury’s decision. The moment was filled with anxiety, tension, and painful anticipation. Um, behind them were long months of uncertainty, investigation, and court hearings during which the family had been forced to relive the tragic details of the case over and over again.

Now, everything depended on the jury’s verdict. While the jurors were in deliberation, the family remained inside the courtroom, waiting for the outcome. Each passing minute felt longer than the last. The atmosphere was heavy and tense. No one could predict how long it would take to reach a final decision or what that decision would be.

For Sierra, the day carried particular weight. Like Zion’s other loved ones, she had come to court hoping to hear a verdict that, in their view, would bring them a step closer to justice. A quiet tension filled the room, and all eyes were fixed on the doors through which the jurors would return.

As the wait continued, the family sat in silence, knowing that one of the most important moments in the entire case was approaching. just so many inconsistencies um that again hopefully you know the end point of this is that they will see those inconsistencies, see through the lies and see the truth that he murdered my daughter and he disposed of her with absolute disregard for her life.

The jury returned with a verdict after just 30 minutes. Following the closing arguments and the judge’s final instructions, the jurors left the courtroom to deliberate. Given the seriousness of the charges and the scale of the case, many had expected the discussion to last significantly longer. However, things unfolded differently.

Only 30 minutes passed before the jury returned to the courtroom with their decision. The speed of the verdict immediately drew attention from everyone present. A tense silence filled the room as it became clear that the jurors had already reached a final conclusion based on the evidence and arguments presented.

For Zion’s family, this moment was one of the most significant of the entire trial. After months of investigation, hearings, and waiting, the case was finally reaching its decisive point, all eyes were fixed on the jury as they came back into the courtroom, ready to deliver their verdict.  As to count one, how do you find  guilty? As to count two, how do you find  guilty? Ladies and gentlemen, please raise your right hand.

During the sentencing hearing, Jaylen Brower continued to insist on his innocence in the murder charge. Even as the court was approaching its final decision, his position remained unchanged. He he did not admit to intentionally taking Zion’s life and continued to deny responsibility for the killing itself. His statements came after a lengthy investigation, numerous court proceedings, and a substantial body of evidence presented during the trial.

Despite the seriousness of the charges and the consequences already evident to everyone in the courtroom, Jallen did not deviate from his version of events. His remarks drew particular attention because they were made right before sentencing at a moment when many expected at least some acknowledgement of responsibility or words of remorse.

However, that did not happen. Instead, he maintained his claim of innocence in the murder, staying consistent with the position he had held throughout the trial. For Zion’s family and everyone following the case, his words served as another painful reminder of the deep divide between the findings of the investigation, the court’s decision, and the defendant’s own account.

I know that the picture’s already painted, of course, and she gets to have it in her head. It is what it is. But was not in any way violently wasn’t hurt at all. I said that I never wanted to apologize, but I never tried to apologize. That’s not true. What I said is I know that my apologies worth nothing. You can’t change her.

But what I did  before announcing the sentence, Judge Donald Knap Padroa described the defendant’s refusal to take any responsibility. Addressing the courtroom, he focused on Jallen’s behavior throughout the investigation and trial. Uh the judge noted that even after the evidence had been presented and the investigation conclusions were laid out, the defendant still showed no genuine understanding of the consequences of his actions.

According to Knap, this position reflected a lack of remorse and a refusal to honestly acknowledge his role in what had happened. He stated that Jallen had not accepted responsibility for the murder, for concealing the body, for lying to police, or for the repeated delays in the investigation caused by his false statements.

The judge emphasized that the investigation had been significantly hindered by the defendant’s contradictory and misleading claims. Each new falsehood forced investigators to spend additional time and resources verifying information that ultimately proved to be untrue. In the court’s view, this behavior was not accidental. It only deepened the impact of the crime and added further pain for Zion’s family.

The judge also noted that on the night in question, Jallen left two young children alone in the house. According to Knap, this fact also reflected the defendant’s character and attitude toward responsibility. Uh, the children were left without supervision at a time when events were unfolding that would later become the subject of a criminal case.

He manipulated his relatives. He used the trust of those close to him for his own purposes, creating a false impression of what had actually taken place. He lied to them. The judge said that these false explanations and fabricated versions of events only increased confusion around the case and obstructed the search for truth, and he acted alone.

Knap stressed that there was no evidence in the case file suggesting that anyone else directed his actions or forced him to behave as he did. All decisions discussed during the trial were the result of his own choices. In the judge’s view, the chances of rehabilitation were extremely limited. Assessing the defendant’s overall conduct, he concluded that prospects for reform were minimal based not only on the crime itself, but also on everything that followed.

Jaylen Brower was sentenced to 30 to 90 years in prison for murder. The sentence was the result of a lengthy investigation and trial in which the circumstances of the case and the evidence from both sides were examined. He also received an additional 5 to 10 years for destruction of evidence. The court ruled that actions taken to conceal the crime warranted separate punishment as they significantly hindered the investigation.

These sentences are to be served consecutively, meaning they will be carried out one after the other according to the court’s decision. After the verdict was announced, Sierra said, “My body was trembling.” But man, when it was read and it was just so matter of fact, I was so happy they saw she was loved. She is loved.

She was fought for. And this is the result. So I’m happy. I’m happy that in the end this is justice.  And for Jaylen, you thought you were smart. You tried to be slick. The people saw you for what you are. You ain’t and I hope you never get out. Zion Foster’s body was never found. Despite extensive efforts by investigators, that painful reality remained unchanged.

For her family and loved ones, the inability to lay her to rest properly, became yet another tool burden. The case, which had already drawn significant public attention, continued to raise more questions than answers. The most devastating fact was that Zion’s final resting place was still unknown. More than 70 law enforcement officers and volunteers spent nearly 6 months searching the landfill before ultimately being forced to admit defeat.

Day after day, search teams worked under extremely difficult conditions, carefully sifting through massive amounts of waste in hopes of finding even the smallest trace that could bring Zion back to her family. The work was exhausting both physically and emotionally. Despite persistence, time, and significant resources, the search did not produce the desired outcome.

Eventually, those involved had to make the difficult decision to end the operation, acknowledging that further efforts were unlikely to succeed. As of the time this video was published, Jallen was being held at the Wayne County intake facility and awaiting transfer to a state prison. While Zion’s family continued to live with the pain of loss and unanswered questions, Jallen remained in custody, awaiting the next stage of his sentence.

His time in the intake center marked another step in a legal process that had left a lasting impact not only on Zion’s loved ones, but also on everyone who had followed the case from the beginning.
