This terrible story, which happened in 2006, can shock anyone. A young girl from a small, quiet town was found dead in an empty house. From the very first minutes it was clear that there were many strange things in this case, but no one expected such a shocking ending. In this video, we’ll tell you what happened to Casey Stottard and why this crime remains one of the most horrific in history.
Cassie Jo Stoddart was born on December 21, 1989 in Pocatello, Idaho, USA. The local inhabitants were mostly religious and united. They are all accustomed to a calm and measured life. As often happens, none of them could have imagined that something so terrible could happen in their city. Cassie was a cheerful, kind and responsible girl who never got into trouble.
She was an excellent student, obeyed her parents in everything, and helped her family whenever possible. In September 2006, Cassie, then 16, agreed to house-sit for her relatives. Her uncle Frank and his family were planning to go out of town for the weekend. Someone had to feed and walk the dogs while they were gone, and Cassie agreed without any problem.
Even though their house was in the middle of nowhere, her parents weren’t afraid to let Cassie go there alone for a few days. She had already looked after the house in her uncle’s absence on several occasions. And with two Debermans it wasn’t so scary to be in an empty house. Casey went there on Friday, September 22, and was supposed to stay in the house until Sunday.
In the evening, she called her mother and asked permission to invite her boyfriend to watch a movie with him , but her mother refused. Then the girl said that she would watch the movie alone and go to bed. The next day, Cassie didn’t contact her parents, but they didn’t seem to care. The girl was responsible and independent.
And what could have happened to her in their quiet town? But the next day, Sunday, Kssi did not return home at the appointed time, and this already worried her mother. After waiting for a while, she got into the car and headed to Frank’s house around noon. When she arrived , she saw that her brother and his family had already returned home.
But there a heartbreaking sight awaited them. Frank’s thirteen-year-old daughter, who entered the house first, saw Cassie’s lifeless body on the floor. Her parents immediately called an ambulance, but the girl had been dead for several days. The police who arrived at the scene immediately realized that they were dealing with a murder.
Everything indicated that Cassie had been struck multiple times with a sharp object. After examining the crime scene, they noticed several potential clues. One of the windows on the basement floor was broken and the electrical panel door was ajar. This indicated that it was unlikely that the perpetrator would have been able to take two adult Dobermans into a room and lock them there.
A much more logical version was that Cassie herself had locked the dogs in. But why did she need to do this? The only explanation was that someone she knew had come to her house that Friday evening, and she had to lock the Dobermans in the room to prevent them from attacking the guest. The situation was becoming more and more confusing. Based on the above, the killer could have been someone Kssi knew well and let into the house.
However, the police didn’t have to puzzle over this mystery for long, as the next significant tip appeared almost immediately. News of the murder quickly spread throughout the city, whose residents had never seen such crimes. Just a few hours after the body was discovered, almost everyone knew about it . While detectives were working at the crime scene, a woman drove up to the house and claimed to have valuable information.
It turned out that it was the mother of Cassie’s boyfriend Matt Beckham. According to the woman, her son did come to Casey’s that evening to watch the movie. The girl hid this fact from her mother, as she forbade her to invite guests. Police questioned Matt and his mother. They said his mother called him at around 10:00 p.m.
and demanded that he go home. But Matt refused. He said that something strange was happening in the house . The lights went out several times , and a window broke inexplicably. Cassie was scared by what was happening, so the guy decided to stay with her. But his mother didn’t believe this story. At that moment, she thought that Matt was simply making this all up to stay with Casey.
Then she decided to pick him up herself and went to the house. Arriving at the scene, the woman listened to Cassie’s story about the strange things happening in the house, and what was happening no longer seemed like a fantasy to her. Then she invited the girl to leave with them, but Cassie refused. First of all, the power outages and other strange things have already stopped.
Secondly, she felt safe in the company of two Dobermans. Deciding that there was really no reason to be seriously worried, Matt and his mother left for home at about 11:30. The guy had no idea who could have killed the girl after they left. The detectives were in no hurry to take the young man and his mother at their word.
At that point, things were not going in Matt’s favor. He was the last person to see the victim alive, and his mother’s testimony may have been fabricated to shield her son. On the other hand, there was no evidence against him either. While Matt was being questioned, medical examiners examined Cassie’s body and made several disturbing findings.
The girl received approximately 30 blows with a sharp object, and it is highly likely that two different weapons were used. This suggested that there could have been two attackers. And it bore fruit. Matt suddenly announced that he had indeed hidden one detail from the police . He said that that evening he invited two mutual friends from the school where he and Cassie attended. The boys’ names were Brian Draper and Torey Adamczyk. They were friends with Matt and Cassie and agreed to come over to their house that evening to watch a movie.
But they didn’t stay there for long, because they found the movie boring. Shortly after arriving, they said they would rather go to the local cinema and left the house. As Matt was driving home with his mother, he called Tora and said he was heading home. The guy planned to meet his friends that evening, but they were already sitting in the cinema.
Matt explained to the detectives that he didn’t involve his friends for this very reason. They did not stay in the house for long and could not have any useful information. However, this confession closed the issue with the dogs for the police. Cassie locked them upstairs precisely because Brian and Tori had arrived.
Apparently, the Dobermans were familiar with Matt and did not show aggression towards him, but they reacted negatively to strangers . The police questioned these guys and they completely confirmed this. After leaving Cassie’s house, they went to the cinema for a late-night show, which gave them an alibi. Detectives studied their backgrounds and concluded that the boys were most likely not involved in the incident.
Both had no problems with the law and were in good standing. However, the police still decided to check their alibi and went to that cinema. To their surprise, the cashier stated that Brian and Tori had not shown up there that evening. The girl working at the cash register went to the same school with them and knew both of them personally.
That’s why she was sure that the boys didn’t come to the cinema. It was suspicious, but detectives were in no hurry to charge the two friends with murder. They did not rule out that Brian and Tori had lied in order to cover up some minor violation. Perhaps, instead of going to the cinema, they went somewhere to have a drink or spend time in some other, not entirely legal way.
But the police could not ignore the false alibi . They started thinking about how to get the guys to tell the truth. At one point, they even planned to start tapping their phones. But the need for this quickly disappeared. A very unexpected turn of events awaited the detectives and the city’s residents .
The very next day after Cassie’s body was discovered, Tory Adamczyk came to the police station with his parents, who forced him to tell detectives a shocking story. Tory stated that Brian killed the girl and that he became an involuntary witness to this crime. According to his story, that evening the guys simply decided to scare Kssi and play a kind of prank.
Before leaving her uncle’s house that evening, they quietly opened the back door. Next, Tori and Brian lied about going to the cinema, but instead parked the car at the other end of the street. They put on plastic masks, dark clothes and went back. Having entered the house through the back door, they began their prank.
The boys broke the window and started turning the electricity on and off, scaring Cassie and Matt. They hoped the couple would go down to the basement to check the electrical panel, but that never happened. Around the same time, Matt’s mother arrived at the house , and Tori and Brian became quiet. They heard the woman urging Cassie to come with them, before taking her son and leaving.
As soon as the girl was left alone in the house, the guys started turning the electricity off and on again . They wanted Cassie to go down to the basement, but she seemed afraid. Then Tori and Brian went up from the basement and bumped into the girl. At that moment, according to Tory’s account, his friend suddenly pulled out a knife and began stabbing Xsie, turning a harmless prank into a brutal murder.
What was happening shocked Tore, and he was afraid that Brian might kill him next. They left the crime scene and went to Tori’s house, where they spent the night. The boy couldn’t sleep all night and was afraid that Brian might attack his family. Tory cried while he was telling this story, but the detectives dismissed it as a simple act.
From the medical examiner’s report, they knew that two people had struck, so Adamchik’s story made no sense. On the contrary, the detectives knew perfectly well that if Brian had attacked Cassie, Tory would have been involved too. But they were in no hurry to accuse the guy of cheating, and instead decided to play along with him.
They needed physical evidence, so they calmed Adamczyk down. and assured him that he had nothing to fear. They then explained to the guy that they could only put Brian in jail if Tori showed them where they hid the clothes and masks after the murder. It worked. Tory said that immediately after the crime, they drove out of town and buried all their belongings near Blackrock Canyon.
The detectives took him to this place, and he showed them the exact location of the hiding place. Near the burial site of the evidence, police also noticed the ashes of a fire. Tori explained that he and Brian had initially wanted to burn everything, but it hadn’t worked. The thing is , they tried to light a fire using hydrogen peroxide and, to their surprise, found that it was not flammable.
The police dug up the cache and found an unexpected surprise. They hoped that they would only be able to obtain clothes with traces of blood. However, there was much more useful evidence underground. Masks, gloves and other items of clothing were covered in blood. In addition, there were two knives lying nearby, which detectives immediately assumed to be the murder weapon.
There was also a partially burnt piece of paper on which, in Adamczyk’s handwriting, he detailed how he and Brian killed Cassie. All this might have been enough to arrest both suspects, but at the bottom of the pit lay perhaps the most gruesome piece of evidence. Investigators discovered a videotape, the contents of which shocked them.
Tori and Brian recorded a so-called message to future serial killers. In it, the guys talked about how they were planning to kill their two friends, Cassie and Matt. They outlined their plan and wished good luck to all the other killers. The tape also contained a recording made on the day of the murder.
Tori and Brian conducted some sort of interview with Casey and Matt in the school hallway, after which they once again declared on camera that they were going to kill them. But the most terrible thing was yet to come. The following footage was taken after the murder, when the boys were driving in the car to get rid of the evidence.
They laughed, shouted and rejoiced. Tori and Brian couldn’t hide their delight and were amazed at how easy it was for them to take someone’s life. Of course, with such a set of evidence, Adamchik could no longer pretend to be an innocent victim. It was obvious to the police that he had taken a direct part in the murder, and the boy, in tears, admitted that he had indeed stabbed Katssa several times .
In the end, both criminals were arrested, but the police were still waiting for another important discovery. They noticed that on the tape, Brian was constantly writing something in a notebook. Detectives searched his room and found it carefully hidden from prying eyes. The notebook contained a list of things that needed to be purchased before the murder.
But what followed was truly terrifying. A list of twenty names. It turned out that the criminals were planning to kill 20 people over the next two years, taking breaks of a month. Among them were friends, teachers, and even relatives of Tori and Brian. The police spoke to all the people on the list, and it came as a real shock to them .
They all thought they were on good terms with those who were actually going to kill them. Once under arrest, the boys began to shift the blame onto each other in the hope of avoiding punishment. Despite the fact that both criminals were 16 years old, they were decided to be tried as adults. The trials began in 2007 and were conducted separately.
It was then revealed that Tori and Brian were inspired to commit murder by the cult film Scream and even tried to imitate the masked maniac. This explained the choice of weapon and the attempt to scare the victim by cutting off the electricity. They also idolized serial killers and mass murderers such as Tedbandi and the Columbine shooters.
In other words, their only motive was the desire to kill. Moreover, they wanted to turn all this into a show. The boys expected that after all the murders they committed, they would become legends and go down in history. Despite all this, medical experts declared them sane, so they should not expect any leniency from the court .
On April 17, 2007, Brian Draper was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. On June 8, Tory Adamczyk was found guilty of the same charges. Both were sentenced to life without parole, plus an additional 30 years each for conspiracy. Adamchik’s family was outraged by such a harsh sentence.
They believed the court should have made a more lenient decision because their son had led detectives to the sandpipers. However, the judge understood perfectly well that Tory himself had no merit here . The guy was simply scared and tried to shift the blame onto his friend, and this does not give him any right to a lighter sentence. Over the following years, Tori and Brian filed numerous appeals in an attempt to reduce their sentences, but each time they were denied.
These two will likely never leave prison unless the American authorities decide to give them a break. So what do we have in the end? Tori and Brian are undoubtedly true psychopaths, but they were fully aware of everything they were doing. They began planning the murders long before the attack on Cassie. We tried to think through every step.
The police were partly lucky that both maniacs were not particularly bright. They didn’t even think about the fact that their false alibi could be checked in a few minutes, and this would immediately make them the prime suspects. Now they continue to serve their sentences in the same prison. Only now they hate each other for their mutual attempts to dump the wine.
Cassie’s family was never able to return to normal life after all this horror. Frank’s thirteen-year-old daughter, who was the first to discover Cassie’s body, later attempted to commit suicide. Frank and his family were also forced to move out of the house because no one else could live there.
Even though the police department sent in crime scene experts to clean up the crime scene, the residents of the house never entered the building again except to get their belongings.
