At 83, The View icon Joy Behar isn’t holding back. During a recent episode of The View: Behind the Table podcast, Behar opened up about her nearly 15-year marriage to husband Steve Janowitz, revealing the wisdom she wishes every young woman knew before tying the knot.
“My husband is a very, very high-quality person,” Behar said. “He has integrity. He’s funny. He loves me, supports me. I have a very good marriage.”:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2)/Joy-Behar-birthday-tout-100623-e82cb2f19227466f8487858e51baff0e.jpg)
But Behar’s advice went beyond compliments. She paused, her tone thoughtful, offering a blunt reminder to young women: lust fades. “Ask Helen Fisher, the anthropologist,” she explained. “Two years in, you might think, ‘I got a headache,’ or ‘I just want pizza.’ Who you’re with matters beyond the passion — they must be your friend, your companion, someone to share life with. Be careful who you choose.”
Joy and Steve’s love story is remarkable. The couple wed in a private New York City ceremony in 2011 after 29 years together. Steve is also stepfather to Behar’s daughter Eve, 55, from her previous marriage. Their bond is built on laughter, respect, and shared life — the qualities that have carried them to their upcoming 15th wedding anniversary this August.
Behar’s insight is a rare glimpse into the reality behind long-lasting marriages, a reminder that true love is as much about friendship as it is about romance.
