“She’s so happy at school, and she loves it so much that if she’s happy, my wife and I are happy,” Geist told People. Reflecting on the bittersweet milestone, he added, “It was sad to say goodbye… but the minute she went, she was thrilled and happy. So we’re good.”

On Today with Jenna & Friends last September, Geist shared similar sentiments about Lucie starting college: “You realize all that you’ve poured into this person for 18 years is now paying off, and she can handle herself. And she’s happy and she’s good.” He described the goodbye hug as “a little teary” but reaffirmed the joy of seeing his daughter embrace independence.

He also shared a friend’s advice: “When you drop [your kids] off at college, if they don’t look back, you’ve done it right.” Lucie gave a slight glance back before moving on, stepping confidently into her new chapter.

Geist’s reflections offer a heartfelt insight into the complexities of parenthood, balancing pride, love, and the bittersweet reality of letting go as children grow into their own lives.
