Savannah Guthrie Turns Her Wordle Obsession Into a Prime-Time Game Show With Jimmy Fallon
Savannah Guthrie, the unstoppable TODAY co-anchor known for her quick wit and boundless energy, is officially taking her Wordle obsession from her phone—and Times Square screens—straight to television.
On Monday, Jimmy Fallon revealed on TODAY that he’ll executive produce a brand-new Wordle game show with The New York Times, and Savannah will lead the charge as host. “We’ve been working on this for over two years, and it’s finally happening,” Fallon said. “We needed someone who not only loves Wordle but can carry a show—and Savannah nailed it in the pilot!”
Savannah, who calls Wordle her “daily gaming obsession,” admitted the secret project had been a long-held surprise. “We’ve been keeping this under wraps for ages,” she laughed.
Fans may remember her unforgettable March 2025 moment, when she solved a mega-sized Wordle on Times Square’s Mega-Zilla screen—what she jokingly called every word nerd’s dream (and nightmare!). Savannah even visited The New York Times offices to see how the puzzles are created—a visit that sparked the idea for the game show.
Carson Daly praised Savannah as the perfect choice: “She’s brilliant, loves games, and is incredible on TV. This is going to be amazing.”
Filming, set to begin this summer, was briefly delayed while Savannah tended to family matters. “They just waited for me,” she said. “In Hollywood, that’s not something you take for granted.” Fallon added with a grin: “We can’t do it without you. Savannah is a joy—everyone’s going to love this.”
Viewers can expect laughs, friendly competition, and clever wordplay as Savannah transforms the beloved daily puzzle into a prime-time spectacle, bringing Wordle fever to living rooms across the country.
