Michael Ball, 63, beloved West End star, has shared the inspiring story of his 32-year relationship with Cathy McGowan, the legendary Ready Steady Go! presenter, revealing how her love helped him overcome a traumatic accident in his teens.The couple first met in the 1980s when Cathy interviewed Michael for his musical Aspects of Love. Sparks flew instantly, and by 1992, they had moved in together, building a life filled with normalcy and mutual support away from the spotlight.

Michael recalled a horrific charity parachute jump gone wrong at 18, which left him with internal bleeding, a ruptured groin, and long-term complications affecting his sexual health.

“I was going to earth at four times the speed I was meant to and got dragged along the floor. It was very difficult to come to terms with. I was so embarrassed by what had happened that I didn’t tell anyone for six months,” he said.

Despite the physical and emotional trauma, Cathy helped Michael rebuild his confidence:

“All I ever thought was, will I ever be normal? I didn’t feel adequate… She taught me not to feel like a freak. She made me feel attractive for me, not for being Mr Entertainment. I love my home, I love the normality of my life with Cathy.”
