Jesy Nelson Shares Heartbreaking Yet Inspiring Moment as Twin Daughters Undergo Daily SMA Treatment
Jesy Nelson has shared a deeply moving glimpse into her life as a mother caring for her twin daughters, Ocean and Story, who are battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare and devastating muscle-wasting condition. The singer, 34, took to Instagram over the weekend to post a sweet snap of herself giving the one-year-old twins physiotherapy in a park, making the most of the UK heatwave. “Physio in the park,” she captioned the moment, capturing both love and resilience.
Diagnosed in January, Jesy’s daughters face a tragic prognosis — without early treatment, they may never walk and could live only a few years. The twins rely on specialist breathing equipment and feeding tubes, making every day a delicate balance of medical care and nurturing.
Despite the heartbreak, Jesy has been a tireless advocate for change. Last week, she celebrated a major milestone: the UK Government has confirmed that SMA will now be debated in Parliament on June 22, following her campaign to expand newborn screening. In a statement, Jesy said, “A big step forward for SMA… I am so proud as this is a major milestone for the SMA community.” The initiative will see over 400,000 babies screened starting October 2026, giving hope to countless families.
Jesy has described the emotional rollercoaster of caring for the twins, admitting some days are “really fing s*”* while others are slightly lighter. Speaking candidly about the daily struggles, she explained, “Every day is so full-on – I can speak about it, but I’ll never be able to explain how intense it is until you see it.”
Still, the star remains hopeful. On Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, Jesy said she believes her daughters are incredibly resilient and will “defy all the odds”. She added, “Their muscles are deteriorating and wasting away… but they are the strongest, most resilient babies and I really believe that they are going to defy all the odds.”
Even amid the challenges, Jesy continues to film her Prime Video series, determined to use her platform to raise awareness for SMA and inspire change. Through heartbreak and hope, her message is clear: love, courage, and advocacy can make a difference — even in the face of life’s most devastating battles.
