From Loss to Love: Sarah Greene Finds Romance with Late Husband’s Closest Friend
Sarah Greene, the beloved BBC One presenter of The Finish Line, has shared a heartwarming story of love blossoming after tragedy. Years after the death of her husband Mike Smith in 2014, Sarah, 68, revealed she has found romance with Robb Gravett, one of Mike’s oldest friends and a former British Touring Car champion.
The connection between Sarah and Robb runs deeper than romance. Both share a passion for racing and a profound respect for Mike, who had been a central figure in both their lives. Speaking on the My Time Capsule podcast, Sarah recalled how Robb began leaving patient messages on her answering machine. “At first I thought he was just being kind,” she said. But soon, she realized his intentions were genuine. “I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life… I thought Robb was just being kind—but then I got the message loud and clear: he wanted to take me out!”
Navigating a new relationship in the shadow of her late husband was delicate. With Mike’s photographs still around the house, Sarah admitted feeling nervous about moving forward. Robb, however, reassured her with heartfelt words: “It would be strange if the photos weren’t there. And remember, I love him too.”
Their story is a poignant reminder that love can bloom again, even from the most unexpected places, and that enduring bonds from the past can sometimes open the door to a hopeful, joyful future.
