Carson Daly isn’t afraid to step up… or drink up, rather.

On the Today show on Wednesday, June 3, the co-host reacted to A-list pals Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman doing a “shoey” with an Australian sailing team they recently purchased. The Aussie tradition, which involves chugging a beer out of a shoe, inspired Daly to try one for himself.

So when the clip wrapped, Daly didn’t hesitate. Admitting he’d “never done” a shoey, the 52-year-old kicked off his shoe and pulled a bottle of beer from his suit jacket pocket as Jenna Bush Hager cheered him on, shouting, “Carson, let’s go!”

Though the show cut to commercial, they played back the full moment after the break.

The footage showed Daly pouring the beer into his shoe before drinking up as Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones and Savannah Guthrie looked shocked next to him.

“Did you actually do it?” Bush Hager asked after Daly had finished.

“Of course, I did it,” Daly replied with Guthrie adding, “Do you know him? Of course he did.”

Later, the group was out on the Today Show Plaza when Daly suggested another iteration of the tradition, saying, “Next time I’m gonna drink it out of Savannah’s shoe and I’m gonna called it a ‘Choo-y,’ Jimmy Choo shoes. So I’ll do a ‘shoey’ and a ‘Choo-y.’ ”

And while Guthrie slipped off her blush heel and offered it up, Daly didn’t take on the challenge right away.

He did, however, poke fun at the display, saying, “Do you know what I have to do to stick around with these fine, hard-hitting journalists? Some interview presidents, some do shoeys and Choo-ys. Gotta earn your keep, everybody.”

As for Jackman and Reynolds, they proudly posted the video of the shoey, with the Aussie actor saying he hadn’t taken on the challenge in 35 years.

After both men completed it, Jackman declared, “Drink responsibly.”
