Doc Martin Could Return to ITV! Martin Clunes Hints at Movie Four Years After Final Episode
Fans of the much-loved ITV series Doc Martin were sent into a frenzy as star Martin Clunes teased a possible comeback, hinting at a movie more than four years after the show ended.

Speaking at the Goodwoof dog show in West Sussex, Clunes was asked about the possibility of new episodes or a special film. With a cheeky grin, he replied:
“Never say never. We’ll see. Of course, GPs have to retire at my age, but yes, more on that story later!”
The actor described his 18 years playing socially awkward Dr Martin Ellingham across ten series as life-changing. “It was great for us. My wife Philippa produced it all, so we could work together, take the dogs to work — it was our company. Paid for the farm!”
Although the UK series ended in 2022, the show has enjoyed a new lease of life in America with the spin-off Best Medicine, in which Clunes returned to play the father of Dr Martin Best. The show’s second 12-episode season is set to air in 2026/2027, following Martin as he abruptly leaves his career in Boston to become a GP in a quaint East Coast fishing village, where his blunt bedside manner quickly alienates the locals.

Behind the scenes, Clunes’ wife Philippa Braithwaite continues to serve as executive producer, overseeing both the original UK version and the American spin-off. Fans were delighted to learn that Martin often dishes out medical advice on set as if he were the real doctor — leading to humorous moments where the cast has to remind him:
“You are not a doctor!”
With Clunes hinting at more adventures for Doc Martin, UK audiences may soon see their beloved GP back in action — whether in a new special, movie, or future series.
