Janet Street-Porter Marries Long-Term Partner Peter Spanton in Secret Ceremony — Reveals Why She Kept It Private
Loose Women star and journalist Janet Street-Porter, 79, has opened up about her quiet wedding to long-term partner Peter Spanton, 26 years after they first got together. The couple tied the knot in January in a tiny ceremony attended by just four guests, keeping the nuptials under wraps due to Janet’s past marriages and a desire to avoid repeating old mistakes.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of Loose Women, Janet admitted:
“I didn’t tell anybody at all… we’ve been together for 26 years. I’d always thought, you know, it’s embarrassing.”
Janet revealed she was nervous and emotional the day before the wedding. “I got myself in a complete state… I was shaking. I didn’t want to make fun of Peter. I wanted it to be lovely for him because he hasn’t been married before.”
Reflecting on her earlier marriages, including a “big mistake” with David Sorkin at 50, Janet added candidly:
“Frankly, I’ve been married a lot of times before… I guess I thought it’s embarrassing. I don’t know how I’m going to handle it. I’m still embarrassed.”
Despite her nerves, the intimate setting allowed the couple to create a meaningful and memorable ceremony, with footage shared on the show leaving co-hosts stunned. Christine Lampard remarked:
“We were all in a bit of a shock last week when we all received this video from Janet!”
After decades in the public eye, Janet’s story is a reminder that even celebrated stars seek privacy, humility, and personal moments of happiness away from the cameras — proving that love and careful planning can make even a tiny wedding unforgettable.
